  Disability Insurance

This benefit helps you in the event you become unable to work due to a non-work related illness or injury.

Short-Term Disability (STD) Coverage

STD is designed to provide regular full-time employees pay when an illness or injury prevents you from working. The benefit period is 26 weeks. There is a 7 day Elimination Period for disability due to Injury or Sickness.  STD is a bridge to the LTD benefit if necessary.

This is a company paid benefit.

Note: STD is not offered to California residents due to the state’s short term disability program.

Basic Long-Term Disability (LTD) Coverage

The Company provides you with basic LTD coverage that replaces 60% of your base pay up to $66,660 after you have been disabled 6 months. This is provided to you at no cost.

Benefits continue until you are no longer disabled or until you reach age 65 if you are totally disabled. LTD benefits are reduced by other disability-type benefits, such as Workers’ Compensation and Social Security. LTD is intended to be a bridge that provides income until you come back to work, receive Social Security or retire.

Additional Long-Term Disability Coverage

You may also purchase additional LTD coverage to provide you with total coverage of 60% of pay (capped at $100,000). You pay for this coverage on a after-tax basis.

Additional LTD can begin after six months of disability (when the Company-paid basic coverage begins). It is based on a higher pay cap.

Additional LTD benefits are reduced by other disability-type benefits, as described in the “Basic LTD Coverage” section. The cost for the supplemental option is listed in the enrollment system.

During Open Enrollment, any increase in disability coverage will require evidence of insurability.
California residents will need to evaluate their needs, accounting for the California Short Term Disability Program.
